Purpose

To foster a strong, healthy, and inclusive rugby community by providing opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to learn, grow, and enjoy the game. Through camaraderie, fitness, and shared purpose, Southbridge Rugby Football Club promotes rugby throughout the Canterbury region while supporting local organisations and strengthening the wider community.

Values

  • Community & Belonging - We celebrate people. We welcome all ages, families, supporters, and visitors, and we take pride in being a hub for the Ellesmere and Canterbury community.
  • Tradition & Legacy - Since 1876, we have honoured the blue and white hoops. We protect the traditions, stories, and spirit that make SRFC one of New Zealand’s most recognised rural rugby clubs.
  • Participation & Fair Play - We encourage involvement at every level — from Under 6s to Golden Oldies — and uphold fairness, respect, and sportsmanship on and off the field.
  • Development & Growth - We are committed to developing players, coaches, managers, and referees, ensuring rugby continues to thrive for future generations.
  • Service & Support - We give back. Through fundraising, community events, and partnerships, we support local charities, schools, and organisations, reinforcing our role as a community leader.
  • Pride & Excellence - We strive to be the strongest club and brand in country rugby — competitive on the field, united off it, and proud of who we are.
