Day 1 – Friday: Opening Night of the 150th Jubilee

Day 1 of the Southbridge Rugby Football Club 150th Jubilee opened with a warm, energetic welcome as past and present players, families, supporters, and community members gathered to begin a weekend of celebration. The atmosphere was filled with connection, pride, and the shared history that defines SRFC.

The evening was expertly guided by Michael Sheat, whose professionalism, humour, and steady leadership as MC ensured the night flowed seamlessly. His ability to engage the crowd and keep the programme moving added significantly to the success of the opening event.

A major highlight was the Q&A Panel featuring rugby greats Waisale Serevi, Wayne Smith, Pip Love, Andy Ellis and James Coull (Captain SRFC Mens Premier Team). Their insights, stories, and reflections on the game captivated the audience, offering a rare opportunity to hear directly from some of rugby’s most respected figures. The panel set an inspiring tone for the weekend and underscored the deep legacy of our club within the wider rugby community.

The night also included a special moment as Pip Love presented her "Black Ferns Playing Jersey from the 2021 / 2022 Womens Rugby World Cup" this gesture was received with immense appreciation and pride. This presentation symbolised the connection between past players, current representatives, and the club’s ongoing story.

Energy lifted again with the Jersey Auction, brilliantly commentated by Maddo Taylor, whose enthusiasm and humour brought the room to life. The auction was a fantastic success, contributing significantly to Jubilee fundraising efforts and showcasing the generosity of our rugby family.

With over 350 attendees reconnecting, sharing stories, and celebrating the club’s heritage, Friday set the perfect foundation for an unforgettable Jubilee weekend.
